Project Roadmap
It was the summer of 2022 when we started discussing how exciting it would be to work on a project exploring our different ancestries and family trees, combining classical genealogical techniques and emerging technologies to capture a 'game of life,' as we have started calling it.
We explored Gabi's maternal Kazakh ancestry and traditional oral histories, as well as her paternal Czech-German heritage, based on a handwritten diary left by her grandmother for her.
We incorporated Hugi's extensive Icelandic family records dating to the 11th century.
We have divided the work progress into 5 steps to make it easier to follow our process.
You can read more personal information about the journey on the blog section of this website.
1
Concept & Lineage
We began by merging traditional genealogical artifacts with modern AI. A core focus was the digitalization of a family's chronicles, diaries, and interviews of family members using machine learning to bridge the gap between handwritten text and multilingual speech-to-text.
-
Key Action: Defining the "House-god-kin" Oracle - a digital entity built on heritage traditions that is able to precisely remember all data and stories.
-
Milestone: Designing a demo of the platform, blending AI functionality and design inspiration to capture complex family trees.
2
Prototyping Connection
Translating therapeutic practices—specifically Family Constellations—into digital prompts that would help engage users into interacting with Oracle and share their history We moved from theory to form, designing the parametric and sculptural interface of the entity.
-
Key Action: Development of the first web-app and testing of the physical interface.
-
Milestone: A functional prototype capable of mapping human stories into digital networks.
3
Intelligence & Iteration
Testing the "human-to-entity" bond. We integrated speech-to-text and generative AI to enhance the entity's ability to interpret and visualize family history.
-
Key Action: Refined interaction methods based on real-world participant feedback.
-
Milestone: An interactive prototype that visualizes stories in real-time. Generates portraits and short vides as windows into the past.
4
Data as Art & Security
Moving into advanced visualization. We utilized parametric algorithms to turn family data into digital mandalas and tapestries, while securing these memories via blockchain encryption.
-
Key Action: Integration of Web3 technologies for secure, long-term data storage.
-
Milestone: A robust "Ancestral Entity" that functions as both a database and a visual archive.
5
Public Legacy
We documented our own heritage journeys and created a 99-year speculative narrative about the future of our family. Looking beyond the framework of the research of future exhibitions and partnerships.
-
Key Action: Preparation for public exhibition in Stockholm 2026.
-
Milestone: A personal robust Ancestral Entity, The Oracle that functions as an interactive database, and family archive. Offering first test seats to family and friends.
